(Taken on my birthday at the Hospital Bar Rapid of the Southfork of the American River near Sacramento California in 1993)
Curious? As you can see in the photo, I used to enjoy whitewater kayaking. This picture was taken in 1993 when I worked for "Outdoor Adventures" as a kayaking instructor. Now that I am in Florida, whitewater is out because this state is flat.
I got married in 2006. Ann and I live in a nice house on a golf course where I pay fees to not be able to play because I work too much. Through osmosis alone I have managed to get my handicap down to the low teens. I hope that by watching people play golf outside the window I can soon get to single digits.
We own three Welsh Corgi's -- Beck (8 yrs), Snickers (also 8 yrs); and Maggie (5 years) we lost an earlier dog (Nicky age 1.9) when he had a reaction to drugs at the vet, and we miss him every day. Our first corgi, Dancer, died a while ago at the much more acceptable age of 13. Corgi's make wonderful pets and ours make every day happier (well almost every day).
I spend my days doing research in a variety of areas; the advantage of being a Professor is working on any problem you find interesting (as long as you have a student who also finds it interesting). My research is split between low power computer architecture design, mobile app development, and computational biology. I also spend some time teaching classes, traveling too much and occasionally golfing, shopping, eating, and sleeping.
If you are reading this page to decide if I am the same Gary Tyson you knew long ago, here is some biographical information to help you decide.
Here are some "historical" pictures of me so you can decide if I am the Gary Tyson you remember. The first was taken around 1980 (high school graduation) and the second was taken around 1990.
