1. Watch...
"In a Flash" Video Tutorials are short video presentations that you view to see the skills performed and explained prior to trying them yourself. This is 10 minutes well invested!
2. Practice...
Experiment with the skills taught in the "In a Flash" Video Tutorial, making use of Microsoft Office Help for skills that may be unclear.
3. Apply...
After viewing the "In a Flash" Video Tutorial and experimenting, work live in PowerPoint 2007 following step-by-step instructions to creating your own file to submit for a grade.

We have broken the important aspects of Microsoft PowerPoint into five modules:

  1. Using PowerPoint
  2. Creating Presentations and Working with Slides and Text
  3. Working with Graphics Objects
  4. Working with Presentations
  5. Presenting, Publishing, and Printing

Module 1 provides an overview of PowerPoint and how it is used. It also provides a look at an example presentation that is very similar to the one you will submit for a grade. Modules 2-5 each includes a "In a Flash" video, a practice session, and instructions for the file you will submit for your grade.

Before beginning make sure to view this example file: http://service.cs.fsu.edu/CGS2060MAC/assignment_example_file.pps which contains some but not all of the features required in this assignment. Note that this file is a PowerPoint Show, not an editable PowerPoint file. It will begin playing as soon as you open it. it is automated to progress from slide to slide automatically as your final project will do (PowerPoint is required).

Prior to beginning, come up with a real or fictitious business or organization name (something other than what was used in the example). Your mission for this assignment will be to design a promotional presentation for your business or organization that uses an animated and automated slide show like the one in the example. Your business or organization, as well as your slide show should be unique and different than other students in the class.

  1. [3 pts] Create a new presentation from an "Installed Theme". Select a design that is appropriate for the nature of your business or organization.
  2. [3 pts] Add an appropriate title to the title slide and your name to the subtitle area of the slide.
  3. [4 pts] Insert a "Title and Content" slide and enter information about what your business or organization does, give it an appropriate title.
  4. [4 pts] Insert a "Two Content" slide that lists the accomplishments of your business or organization.
  5. [3 pts] Insert "Title Slide" at the end of the presentation. Enter the title "Conclusion".
  6. [6 pts] Insert a Text Box on the last slide and type a paragraph on why you think your business or organization is the best of its kind. Center the paragraph on the slide and in the textbox, and change the font to a type of your choosing and a size that makes it easy to read.
  7. [4 pts] Add the following to the footer of all slides in the presentation except title slides:
    - The date
    - The title of the presentation as used on the first slide
    - The slide number

Close and save your presentation using your school username as a filename. You'll use this file again in the next step.

  1. [6 pts] Insert a "2 Content Slide" as the 4th slide in your presentation and on it state your company's mission statement then insert an appropriate clip art image. Add the title "Our Mission Statement" to the slide. Size the clipart to an appropriate size. Don't know what a mission statement is? Check http://www.tgci.com/magazine/98fall/mission.asp
  2. [6 pts] Insert a slide with a title and chart anywhere in your presentation. Use the chart to illustrate the increase in your company's or organization's earnings over the past five years. It could be something like 2002-$29,000, 2003-$35,000, 2004-$50,000, etc.Add an appropriate title to the slide.
  3. [3 pts] Size and position the chart so that it fills most of the slide and is centered.
  4. [3 pts] Add an animation effect to the chart so that the bar for each year is displayed sequentially one at a time. Use the "wipe" animation effect. Hint: look in Effect Options in the Chart Animation tab.
  5. [5 pts] Add a rectangle shape to the last slide that holds your concluding paragraph. Color the square with a 2-color "Gradient Fill" in a "Linear Diagonal" direction. Use white and some attractive color.
  6. [3 pts] Change the layering so that the rectangle acts as a background to the paragraph.
  7. [3 pts] Add a shadow effect to the rectangle.
  8. [4 pts] Add a blank slide to the end of the presentation and insert word art that states "The End". Select a text color to match your design colors. Size the WordArt to fill a large portion of the page.
  9. [6 pts] Decorate the final slide with AutoShapes of your choosing. Make the AutoShapes fill 50% transparent, remove the shape outline for each object, and have some overlap each other. (Note: This means you'll need at least 2 AutoShapes)
  10. [3 pts] "Group" the word art and shapes on the final slide into one object.
  11. [3 pts] Add the Zoom animation effect to the Word art and shapes that you grouped.
  12. [5 pts] Go through the entire presentation and add animation to all bulleted lists and graphics. Each should appear when the mouse is clicked. Bulleted lists should be animated so that each bulleted item appears when the mouse is clicked.

  14. Go to the Slide Show ribbon and click View Show. Check out your presentation to make sure that all animation effects are working correctly. You should have a total of 7 slides.
